some nice pics there, steve, though i only got to look at the first 100 or so.

the one of the man sitting on the wrecked dhow a couple dozen from the top reminded me of my shock seeing a dhow about that size under construction, on its side, no less, in lamu. basically the size of european galleons of the 1600s.

I've traveled quite a bit in the Oman sharkiyah area, a bit too "touristy" (read too many brits who've rented 2 landcruisers at $750US pers day w/ a driver and cook confusingly driving about the desert) to be honest.
Ibra is just my jumping off point if everything goes as planned next year.
Was sent contract today, but I want more money so playing it a bit coy right now and letting their HR department stew for a spell.

Am more interested in the KSA eastern province area, specifically on the Ramlat Khaliya entrance into Ash-Sharqīyah in KSA.

Still have a contact in KSA ministry who stated he can may be able get me the VISA to enter area on new road under construction coming in from oman side.

Interesting that you're still copy and pasting the Arabic transliterations of the places you visit. I gotta be honest, Joe: Your life isn't terribly interesting. You're an English teacher in the Arabian peninsula who isn't either a linguist or an anthropolist. You don't have much in the way of linguistic or cultural insight. The only thing interesting about you is your desperate need to posture to liberals on the Internet - why do you think you do that?

I only speak English.
Have about 60 words of arabic and used to have a little portuguese.

And I call bullshit on your claim to being a lawyer.

The board has already established in the past that you're lying about that.

Since you've admitted publically you are afraid to call me, why dont you give me your number.

Or are you too chickenshit to do that too?
The world ain't as big as some of you little weasles who think they can say anything they want to on line youknow.
Three year in jail taught me that that.

Send me your number by PM.
I will call you if I can find out your number or how to get ahold of you.

i was sentenced to 3 years but didnt do all of it.
That was in FCC (fairbanks correctional center) in 1979-80.

worst thing was I got in a big fight with a big eskimo from barrow and got my ass kicked w cracked ribs and hit in the eye so hard the white part turned red.
But I hit him with an metal ashtray so he left me alone after that.

That's how it was.
back then the food was quite good.

How does a convicted felon get a security related job for the US embassy, or any job for the embassy, even contract work? Whenever I have worked for them or even USAID they first ran a FBI background check as part of the application process. Being an ex-con certainly would have been disqualifying.

In county in Texas you get 2 for 1 days, or even 3 for 1 on trustee. Makes a sentence to go by a lot quicker. I avoided fights for the most part, only had to knock one guy around. My best friend is doing 30 years in New Boston, TX, I'm fairly sure he's clicked up with the woods. He's a big ol guy though, so doesn't have much trouble. This reminded me I need to write him a letter, it's been a while. He probably needs some commissary too.

The food is shit. But if you're trustee in the kitchen you can have as much as you want. A small perk.

Don't convictions expire in the US? For most offences here there's like a 10 year limit after... hmm, not sure, I guess after the end date of the sentence?

There are lots of punks. They let them take fucking estrogen pills while in jail, which I find crazy, so they're in there trying to grow tits. The punks tend to hang out in their own little circle. That said, they get a severe stomping if they give goo goo eyes to the wrong person or try to walk in the showers when straight guys are in there. The only person I had to beat down was a 17 year old punk, (I was 19, before everyone goes all crazy on me), but it was because he splashed me with dirty water, not because of anything gay. They know pretty well that it's not tolerated in there.

I was only 21 at the time and my dad had homesteaded with judge connelly in delta in the 1940s, so I had my conviction set aside and the record was expunged.

to be honest it wasnt as bad as it would seem.
I only had the one fight

mostly it was jsut really boring as I recall

but nobody liked fags in there at that time

Lord what happened to TX when they let them take estrogen in jail
you ruinede my day now

Joe may be a self-important, low self-esteem ass, but I have tended to believe his travel stories, or at least most of them. But lately, some things just don't add up. He claims that he pays no taxes, yet the timelines he describes for working overseas and coming back to the States for periods of time between jobs do not match the requirements for claiming the foreign earned income exemption. He claims to have worked for the US embassy, if I remember correctly doing security related work, yet he is a convicted felon and an ex-con. If I am not mistaken, the US embassy doesn't hire convicted felons for security work no matter how long ago they did their prison time. Something isn't right here. Maybe joe could explain.

Yep. Jail is a lot of sitting around doing nothing and hoping you don't get another staph infection. The occasional fight livens things up.
I spent about a year in a juvenile facility of sorts in Jamaica. That was pretty shit.

Oh my God -- why do you all obsess ovet that little work I did for EMB in congo?

As I've told you many times, it wsa jsut doing one security report on the Likoluala region north of Impfondo and the other was on the CFCO train system.

I did the Likoluala work for mark a guy named mac somthing and Biedlingmaier at the end.

The CFCO railroad report was for Ambassador Robert Weisberg who took the AMB job sometime in 2006 Weisberg was trying to get GM the contract to supply loomotives andIMF money was being used to by the locomotives. A south africal company got the contract to supply th elocomotives so what I wrote was not even important..

it really wasn't that big of a deal.
Yes, I lived in EMB componds, in Brazzaville, the first was in vill washington and the second tiem I stayed with Mark in his house.

It was not that big of a deal and there was no background check at all.
Mark just contacted me before I left and then wrote the letter if invitation whcih I am supplying a copy of and the second I was given the order of mission I am also including.
I think soem people watch too many movies or something or at least what I did was pretty mundane but sometimes actually kind of interesting.
And you onlyneed to be out of the US 330 days to not pay US taxes fool, which I always am, and there are no national taxes in oman or KSA so I dont know why you're so doubtful abou that.
Do you still pay taxes bak in the states?

American Joe; the first letter is just an invitation to stay in Congo and is dated of dec 2005. The second is for you to act as a writter and from Nov 2006.
I would say that assessing security and working in it are two different things; good promotion for the charge d'affaires though.
