If he serves out his 4 years without starting a war then that is more than enough winning. The repitayional damage with China and the eu can be repaired by the next guy.

You have to realise that won’t happen. What are you going to do with all those out of work armed service people? What about the contractors?
The US doesn't need to eliminate the military just the foreign bases. It will save the US a lot of money and reduce tensions around the world.

When the foreign bases close the contractors will be even busier selling more arms to the rest of the world, you needn't worry about them.
If trump is rebuilding the US armed forces while pulling these forces out of all the countries it has a vested interest in defending then where are these forces supposed to go and to do what?

Isn’t the reality that trump thinks nato is paying the us and he imagines he can make a turn on his investment? He’s just hopelessly confused and stupid.

Not sure what the vested interest in defending these countries are but technology has eliminated the need for land bases.

The troops can return to the US.

Yup. They all talk a good talk, but Donnie gets results. He's accomplished more than any other president. As he noted during his U.N. address, Korea be peaced.

The US troop presence is a reminder that NK sou not make any wrong steps. Very few US troops have dies since the end of the Korean war

The laughter tells us that Trump is powerless. Which is, as posters keep telling us, a goal so what’s the problem?

He needs to find a better tone when he goes back. Reading a Stephen Miller speech is very much looking down the back of the sofa so that won’t happen again. Trump’s game, his ability to read an audience, is bad.

You’re ok with Russia owning Western Europe and China owning the Asia Pacific region? If you want the US to be powerful then doesn’t that mean, preventing rivals expanding into areas you would otherwise be either allied with or implicitly control?

And today he is providing plenty of humor:
Trump starts by lying that Japan was not "willing to talk trade" for "years" until he came along. Japan negotiated the Trans-Pacific Partnership with the Obama administration.
Trump again upgrades his U.S. Steel lie, which started at "six plants" and went to "seven plants" and then "eight plants." Just now: "U.S. Steel is opening up a minimum of eight plants."
Trump lies that China "put out an announcement today" that they want him to lose the election. That did not happen.
Trump, referring to his tariffs on China, says he has imposed "25% interest." It is not interest, it is a tax on Americans.
Trump says it's a "rare exception" that the U.S. doesn't have a trade deficit with a country. As of last year, it had a trade surplus with more than half of all countries.
"President Obama wasn't big on picking judges...they just didn't do it. They got tired, they got complacent, something happened," Trump lies for a third time, ignoring the McConnell-led blockade against Obama's late-term nominees.

Why would China and Russia want to "own" Asia and Europe?

From what I saw the last time I was in Asia the Chinese are doing more good than the US ever did and Germany is fully capable of defending itself and the rest of Europe for that matter.

At any rate the UN was never "the world" and is becoming less admired with every child it molests.
You’d like to think that wouldn’t you, except Trump says that it wasn’t the response he was expecting (the crowd laughing at his bullshit comments).

America has all but surrendered to China in that region and we’ll see how that pans out. As suspicious as we might be over America’s motivations and actions, we must surely prefer them to what the Chinese will get up to.

I do think that Mr Trump has a rather weak grip on reality, his hiring of so many yes men, and speaking mainly at Trump friendly rallies, i do honestly think that he thinks that he is doing a 'great job', and was genuinely taken aback by the laughter his un-true words caused.

And it is very clear that his boast would be lapped up by his usual audiences, but not by a more an objective one.

And it does reflect badly on people on here full of excuses and denials that it did happen, the bottom line here is [No matter what they say] that Trump's speech was laughed at at the UN.

This is FACT, no matter what sort of spin they want to put on it.

The Straylians flew over 11,000 bombing sorties during the Vietnam War. The US should probably consult with the Straylians to find out how the RAAF managed to carry those sorties out without dropping bombs on any children.

Maybe they are but they aren't the only ones and the Australians are just one of the rich prosperious countries on the other side of the world that are going to have to pick up all the tab and provide all the young soldiers at risk etc. and thus be responsible for their own defense?

There's zero risk of Trump or anyone else turning around American imperialism.
With Smoke safely out of the Sandbox and the Cold War over for decades and when a large percentage of the populations of rich prosperious countries on the other side of the world despise America and wish the Americans would go home and leave their benevolent neighbors like Red China/North Korea/Putin etc alone in their own neighborhoods yada yada yada why aren’t more Americans admitting that Trump might be a clown but they do agree with his isolationist ideas/policy/rhetoric or whatever you want to call it?

Come on Americans (and pretend Americans) & other partisan puppets why not just be honest and admit that on this single isolated issue you agree with Trump rather than the Democrats & many mainstream Republicans etc.

What are tens of thousands of young American soldiers doing in Germany more than seventy five years after the end of WWII and decades after the end of the cold war?

What are tens of thousands of US troops doing on the DMZ in rich prosperious South Korea looking north into a freaking Socialist basket case?

Why is a USN carrier group chugging around the Gulf defending the oil billionaires & Sunni Muslims from Shiite Muslims when both versions of Muslims generally hate Americans?

Why have military bases all over the place just so AMERICA CAN BE BLAMED FOR EVERY FREAKING THING that goes wrong on the other side of the world?

Why after Vietnam & Iraq & Afghanistan & whatever haven't you learned your lesson regarding your military getting mixed up in the local regional/religious/tribal conflict on the other side of the world?

Why not just pack up those overseas military bases and send your young Americans home and spend all the cash saved on domestic healthcare or local schools or nicer roads or if you don't want to spend it on useful stuff you could blow it on the Great Wall of America between you and Mexico (or even your scary neighbor Canada)?

Does any American or pretend American on this board have a logical augment for those overseas bases or for that matter any of the above?

BTW Smoker from the bottom of his two sizes too small coal black heart thanks the USN carrier group in the Gulf for keeping him & the oil billionaires safe in the sandbox for over two decades!

Oh and Smoker doesn't want to forget to thanks for picking up the tab to all you US tax payers!

Warmest Regards, Smoker

^ The real answer to all those Why questions is because we know they'd just fuck it up if we left it up to them.

Then the world would be in a real mess, which would end up affecting us economically.

My 65-inch TV is looking smaller by the day. I'm ready to move to an 82-incher.

I'm not about to let some dirty foreigner get in the way of that!

Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan & whatever weren't a mess?

As Flobster! & his quotes above illustrates why not just leave those rich prosperious countries on the other side of the world to fix their own neighborhood problems because win or lose at least America wouldn't be paying for it and/or being blamed for anything that goes wrong?

Hahaha! Economics!!! Probably the most ridiculous argument that can be possibly made for spending billions on the other side of the world getting involved in military adventures like facing down hotbeds of high tech innovation and economic prosperity like North Korea & the Taliban & the Mullahs etc.

Hey Annotated; how big do you think your TV would be if you weren't paying taxes to maintain daily securty for Smoker & the oil billionaires in the Gulf and/or to subsidize the defense of the poverty stricken Germans or South Koreans or whoever?

Thanks Annoitated & the rest of the American taxpayers for making the daily security of oil billionaires etc more of a priority than decent schools for your children or universal healthcare or whatever.

Warmest Regards, Smoker

The world laughs on Trump every day for one reason or declaration or another
The world can't agree on a single issue let alone coordinate mass laughter. Any laughter you think you are hearing is nervous and coming from the failed globalists and dying leftists.

Juche!!!
Everybody laughs on Trump, not just hippies, leftists or globalists
Prost!

Hopefully this will lead to the US withdrawing from the UN entirely for the safety of children the world over.
Clearly the children of the world were much safer before 1945 when the US became the dominant superpower.
