Mike Pence takes the knee

Post by Chi_Rup » Tue Feb 13, 2018 7:43 am

Sorry to interrupt piling on a mentally ill person with a non-Po OP, but I have a genuine question.

Winter Olympics. The North and South Korean teams walk out together, which is very exciting because they don’t usually do that and everyone stood up and cheered apart from Mr and Mrs Pence.

What’s he protesting? Isn’t Korean reunification a positive outcome for US or is he just being petty and keeping his boss happy?

Also, is it now OK to use a sporting event to make a silent protest of a political issue?

Enquiring minds etc.

a. Why belittle mental illnes, because, you know
b. Why would the US govt applaud Nth Korea given the current geopolitical climate considering Kim is using the Olympics to soften his international image

I would have thought that much was a little obvious no.

The Olympics are always used for a variety of protests.

You’re right. It is obvious.

Nope. It’s you that’s stupid. If you couldn’t see - immediately - why Pence did what he did, then you’re an idiot and way out of your depth here.

Trump went hard, Kim went soft. The North Koreans are playing Trump like a piano.

But, I doubt the North Koreans stood for the US players.

Indeed. This has Peace In Our Time written all over it if only Pence would bow and clap.

They should probably give Little Rocket Man's sister the Nobel Peace Prize.

Sorry, Chi. I'm with Logg.

If the Pences had celebrated the moment, by acknowledging it as you expect them to, THAT would be weird.

The Japanese and Korean PMs both stood when the unified team walked in. Wasn't weird to them.

If Hitler offered a pretend show of peace, should any leader have bended the knee?

The North Korean mass murdering regime should not bring us to nuclear war but the glowing media response to the evil sister is unconscionable.

It's symbolism. Not surprisingly, Korea and Japan are in favour of things that would reduce tensions in the Korean peninsula. Not sure where the farce is except with a Veep who demands black football player obeisance to the national anthem but cannot acknowledge a nice moment at an olympics.

I bet all those criticising Pence also think the US was wrong to embrace Mobutu, Pinochet, Arbenz, Somoza, Stroessner etc. But Pence should stand and salute one of the most evil regimes in history.

Poor analogy. We aren’t supporting North Korea. We were those others. This is just symbolism over a never-going-to-happen Korean reunification. Pence just looks like an outmaneuvered Grumpy Gus, the uncle who used to be important.

That’s what I’m thinking. It looks like a cack-handed miscomprehension of a symbolic event. It’s just a parade at a sports, nothing that really means anything but I was curious that Pence doesn’t seem to think on his feet.

The symbolic event seemed to mean a lot more in your earlier posts when Pence missed a golden chance to virtue signal, and we were all stupid for not seeing the significance of the moment.

Now it's a non-event, but it's still eventful enough to show the world just how inept Pence is. And possibly dangerously inept. After all, world peace is at stake here, and what kind of fool doesn't clap for world peace?

Nah, he could have just stood with his poker face and that would have been a happy medium. Instead, he chose to virtue signal, an act that didn’t help a single North Korean anywhere. It was just a play to the home NASCAR base. They also just could have sent a lower ranking person like that undead blonde woman.

I do agree with Chip O that this ain’t all that important either way, and didn’t teach us anything we didn’t already know. Still, I’d take the South Korean’s lead. They have way more at stake than we do.

What shit that happens at the fucking corrupt as fuck Olympics is going or was in any way intended to help any North Korean, really? Was that the purpose of this particular exercise? The Olympics were supposed to help North fucking Koreans? The whole fucking thing is a fucking meaningless money making charade. Mike Pence is a cunt, but not because of what happened at the fucking Olympics. Zero fucks given.

Well, yeah, that's the important part in all this: US diplomacy with North Korea has caused such alarm in Asia that North Korea is able to drive a wedge between the US and allies in South Korea and Japan because, unsurprisingly, they don't want a nuclear war. The stakes are a little higher for them.
