Rep. Ilhan Omar

Post by section8 » Mon Feb 11, 2019 8:05 pm

It’s all about the Benjamins, baby.

Omar is a first term congresswoman from Minneapolis. She’s of Somali descent and a practicing Muslim. She also has a Jewish Problem. She’s been tweeting anti-Semitic stuff and then retweeting people who point out how offensive it is.

Maybe it’s 7D chess?

Or is it all being blown up by online rage-oholics?

Should she be pulled from her committees?

Personally, I find her like of 1990s R&B to be the most offensive aspect of this affair.
This is the only musical: the mouth. And hopefully the brain attached to the mouth. Right? The brain, more important than the mouth, is the brain. The brain is much more important.

Well, unlike the republicans, the dems immediately condemned her comments.

She has apologized for that tweet:
Anti-Semitism is real and I am grateful for Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes. My intention is never to offend my constituents or Jewish Americans as a whole. We have to always be willing to step back and think through criticism, just as I expect people to hear me when others attack me for my identity. This is why I unequivocally apologize.

At the same time, I reaffirm the problematic role of lobbyists in our politics, whether it be AIPAC, the NRA or the fossil fuel industry. It's gone on too long and we must be willing to address it.

She's kind of a trip. Her apologies are good, but previous posts suggest she is comfortable with conspiracy theories. A few years ago she had a tweet describing Israel as hypnotizing the world and may Allah open their eyes.
Recently she retweeted something about Lindsay Graham being blackmailable by the Russians because of his dirty secret.
When people questioned why she appeared to be married to her brother and some other guy at the same time, her response was basically 'leave me alone you creeps. It's none of your business.'

What’s the point, exactly, of asking anti-Semites—or any bigots—to apologise for their bigotry?

It’s not as if she means the apology.

Or is the purpose to ask her to pretend to be less of a bigot in future?

I don't know. I think it's the whole character I have problems with. That bizarre story with her brother, which I have heard before, the tweet about Israel hypnotizing the entire world, which Logg has just mentioned.

Personally, I believe you islamophiles have more than just one screw lose. This could be but a minor annoyance to me if the situation weren't so serious. In Europe we're seeing a massive rise in antisemitism, among other things, mainly due to the increasing influence of Islam.

And yes, sometimes I wonder what your Jewish friends on this board think of all this.

I would trade you for 200,000 Somalis, Loosey. You suck the meat, and they sell halal meat.

Somalis started coming in the 90's and the number of immigrants really grew in the early 2000's before Obama became president.

I get it. When he says "Maobama" he means "the people of the United States of America acting through their constitutionally elected representatives of whatever party."

When he says "these fucksticks" he means "people who have established that they have a well-founded fear of persecution and therefore qualify as refugees under international agreements to which the United States is a party."

And when he says "imported" he means "granted refugee status as required by those agreements."

You just have to understand his peculiar use of English.

LS, I have said this before: If you use standard English, and call people and things by their generally accepted names, your readers will understand you better. And if you don't want to be understood, why write at all?

You really don't get it, do you?

You suggested she might have inside info about Graham and the Russians, perhaps from her seat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee? But as the video shows, she really just doesn't seem to understand what 'evidence' is.

You seem to have lost your ability for critical thinking lately.

I like watching all the anti-islam folks using this to prove that islam is evil and then demanding she be punished for being a bigot

I think all the non-americans have a word for that?

in the context of the post Trump world, there are not many free from sin that can cast the first stone - try as they may which, is really disappointing to see where we are, the great lurch backwards continues

if she is to be punished for this, let the purge begin on all sides and yes, it starts at the top, this is the culture of Trump and seeing Pence getting all indigent - if he were really a man of god, he'd have burst into flames so more proof he's satan

and disappointing is my take on her, the situation and those that have been waiting, baiting and spinning her as anti-semitic while ignoring so many others

I do feel she is an anti-smite and hate her being a cliche but then her entire political being is a cliche

I don't think she should be punished for this or her previous Lindsay Graham gaffe, as in forced to resign her seat. Freshmen congressmen are allowed to make freshmen mistakes. But it seems like this might be a pattern rather than a mistake. She made the Lindsay Graham comments within a day or two of being sworn into Congress and taking her seat on the Foreign Affairs Committee. And now this, less than a month later. The problem isn't antisemitism per se, but a relaxed approach to the norms of fact-based argument and a comfort zone with conspiracy theories.

Maybe it's just a Twitter generation thing.
