Well if that wasn't a loaded poll question, I don't know what is. Yes keep it running. By-the-way the recounts are in Alaska and Minnesota.

They aren't recounting Alaska. They are still counting.

Tomorrow is the drop dead day for absentee ballots, 90,000 in all.

I hope they boot that bozo Begich Breath. For America's sake.

Is that because you are a Republican and like Stevens even though he is a convicted felon, or because you don't want the dems to get a filibuster proof Senate?

The latter.

Steven's is a big government liberal. He's awful. Go to Harvard and turn left.

I voted for him for the first time in my life after he became a convicted felon because I loathed his opponent more.

I think IHSS had suggested keeping it around until Inauguration Day, and though discussions may taper off well before then, it seems a logical time to pull the plug.

How about we let the Americans have a say in when the plug gets pulled?

BTW, I realize there probably is a 'how fucked is Alaska' thread already out there somewhere, but add this to the list of how fucked is Alaska: They've got about 300,000 total voters (if even that many) and they still haven't finished counting.

How has this place been able to remain so ass backwards for so long while being part of the Union?

Funny. People used to worry that Hawaii would be the basket case. But then again, those were the type of people who thought that anything without an anglo-saxon majority would ruin civilization, ie--the same knuckle dragging social conservatives who think Palin will save America.

I would suggest waiting until it reaches some benchmark of being irrelevant, forgotten, and useless. Perhaps when it has fewer posts than the talk politics branch.

Actually, Hawaii was republican and seen as a counter-balance to Alaskan statehood. I think at the time Hawaii was still in plantation mode whereas Alaska was a viewed as a threat to the anti-civil rights movement.

Most of the uncounted ballots are being flown in from villages. Alaska is big and pretty much roadless. Clearly they need to work out the logistics better.

Also, these villages are predominantly native alaskan and voting "blue" this election cycle.

I think you're right, but it still has life in it.

Or maybe it's more accurate to say that TP has new life since some of the Obama/McCain/Palin OPs have moved over there.

As long as people are still posting on it in significant numbers why get rid of it?

This forum is a treasure. It has breathed new life into PS. It has shown us that, like certain animals, PS can lie dormant for a long time and suddenly spring to life like clouds of locusts the moment the conditions are right, mercilessly destroying any unsubstantiated partisan rumors or inconsistent opinions in its path. Many of us were afraid that PS was dying. Now we know that PS doesn't die, it just hibernates during periods of minimal political controversy. We know that we all have a 911 link to click on in any political emergency when we need to sound off. If Israel Bombs Iran, if Sarah Palin is the Republican nominee in 2012, if New York City is destroyed, or if Obama being black turns out to have been a hoax to get him elected, we all know where to turn to vent our frustrations or celebrate our exhilaration.

I would be inclined to keep it open until after the inauguration (or possibly even longer if Sarah Palin doesn't shut up).

It is getting quiet here. So is the rest of the board, though not as much as here. But there could be more activity before the inauguration and I don't see any great loss if we leave it open and it doesn't get used (other than that every day the people whose candidate didn't win the election have to see it there).
