Sometimes the simplest things are the nicest. Just bread, soft white cheese, a bunch of herbs, and soft and moist dates. And it was a freebie.Image

Dizi. Chick pea and meat stew. The gravy drained into a soup bowl, bread broken into it, and the remaining stew mashed into a thick puree at the table, served with herbs.Image

The bread (in general) was great when it was freshly cooked. An hour later it was like leather though.

I loved the place, kiki. The highlight was the people, of course. And the only regret was that I wasn't able to be independent, and enjoy their offers of hospitality. I need an alternative passport/nationality next time. Having to be with a guided tour was a barrier.

Wow, the last time I posted in this thread I'd never been to Hong Kong. Since then I've gone 5 times.

What place was that Kate? Son *2 is visiting rellies in Oz soon but doing a couple days in Sydney on his own. He might like it.

Answering 3 years later as I never saw the query at the time - your son could be long gone from Sydney and alas, so is the restaurant. It was Wine Odyssey ( I took Paddox there once and some other ex TTers another time). Such a shame, it was a great little place.

Hmmm I don't remember now but I'm pretty sure it was like a slightly sweet bbq sauce. More sweet than savory at least. The base was soba noodles (seemed more like ramen to me), cabbage/greens, egg, that brown sauce, and then you could add stuff. One of those had kimchi and pork belly added and the other had oysters added. It was good. Here it is being eaten:

Once had Oyster omelet here at some Taiwanese festival for some reason they had to use Korean Oysters-it was OK if a bit underdone.

That Dosa looks sad.

I made an oyster omelette at home yesterday, with local oysters. It was good but the sauce wasn't quite right. I'm also shit at shucking oysters.
