England players let Eddie Jones down

Postby Shavenhead » Sun Mar 19, 2017 10:47 am

Aussie baby sitter Eddie Jones managed to transform England from being the shitest rugby team in the world, to what could have been one of the greatest had they beaten the record of consecutive tests matches won.

Sadly the England players choked against the Bog Trotters and have to contend with being six nations champions which is no great achievement as the six nations is really a side show in the grand rugby scheme of things.

Eddie Jones must be really disappointed.

Were they hung over because they decided to celebrate in advance by getting pissed the night before the game?

I watched the game and England were lucky they didnt get buried by 20, there could easily have been a yellow or two against England.

Ireland showed that, on their day, they can beat anyone (at home mostly).
Rush defence from the off, high intensity, high risk, high reward (Owen's father Andy might have some impact here). England couldn't get into any rhythm, and conditions didn't suit ball handling. Sexton played superbly, and will surely be Lions starting No 9. The forced changes to the Ireland team helped them, Peter O'Mahony was man of the match, their scrum half played well. They also have a really good centre pairing.

Their reactions at the final whistle showed they know they had beaten a really good team, by following the game plan to the letter.

Ireland had a very poor 6N, however, even an understrength Irish team in second gear were able to easily school a very limited England team. Hopefully the hullabaloo about a very mediocre English team dies down now - it was just the English talking them up, though - they never learn.

And I'm also right. The English rugby team was possibly the most overrated sports team this decade. They scraped past Wales and France, were humiliated by Italy and schooled by Ireland's second string. But yes, bestest team ever. You lot are fucking hilarious.

Don't worry, though. Another record breaking streak is on the cards. You just need to play Uruguay and the worst Australian team in history (four times!!!) whilst not playing the two best teams in the world ever again.

The only thing acceptable for this Ireland team is grand slam after grand slam. Everything else is regarded as a failure. Who bleated on about winning championships?? We expect to win them.

Ireland could only win one game away against arguably the worst South African side in history.

Winning it? No, I didn't. I've said that anything other than a grand slam should be deemed a failure.

Yes, that was Ireland's second/third string in SA.

One Slam in over almost 70 years

Two in total.

We were whipping boys until the late 90s. But for some time we've been the best team in the northern hemisphere. And before you rebut that, the rankings are a farce.

My viewing saw Ireland dominating go forward ball/ the contact in tight and loose. Midfield dominated. Playmakers dominated. Ref let England off a lot. Head highs, killing ball/play.

Yes, and Slams and championships are a farce also, unless Ireland win them of course. If they don't, its because the best team didn't fancy like playing. You struggle to win away from home for fucks sake.
And you can't even get past the quarter finals of the World Cup!

You talk about people being blinkered.

Here is Ireland's losing streak against the top sides, playing the other side in their own country:
New Zealand 12
Australia 10
England 4
South Africa 1
Wales 1
France 1
Scotland 1
Argentina 1
The world's second best side sure let down their coach a lot!

Fair dues though, Ireland have won away to Italy the last three times.

Why are you trying to make this about South Africa? That's a different kettle of frogs entrails altogether.

I'm concerned that England, in true cry baby fashion, will become disheartened by this experience and revert to becoming the shitest rugby nation once again.

I don't follow this game but how would Ireland be the best team in the northern hemisphere if they can't win the completion, and the winner, 2 years in a row, only loses one game in 10?

Isn't iolars claim patently ridiculous?

Here's the official world rugby rankings after the 6N:

1 New Zealand 94.78
2 England 89.53
3 Australia 86.35
4 Ireland 84.66
5 Scotland 82.18
6 France 82.00
7 South Africa 81.79
8 Wales 81.21

Sad times for the once mighty Bokke.

How are they 7th?!

Last 19 matches.

6 wins, 1 draw and 12 defeats.

2 wins were against a third string (iolar's words) Irish team at home, a world XV and a draw against the Ba Bas.

England should have seen it coming. Just as the all blacks underestimated a fired up Irish side so did england. Ireland are and will always be the type of side that can cause an upset but not much else.

In reality it was a pretty average tournament which flattered england. If Ireland play to their ability then they are probably a match for anybody but consistency has never a feature of their game.
