RIP foolsprogress

Postby CaminoDeb » Fri Dec 09, 2016 5:48 am

foolsprogress has passed. It was a tragic accident in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. I'm his exwife, and he mentioned last week how much fun he was having still posting with the old thorntree group. I registered and came in to tell you, his friends.

He was working in P Penh and slipped and fell between two docked boats, drowning. His body was recovered in the Tonle Sap about a day and a half after he drowned. His family and friends are devastated.

I will try checking back in at some point, but my address is harmanygroves at gmail

You are welcome to contact me.

So sorry---Debra Groves Cramer Harman

I just approved this (many hours later).

I want to hope this is spam or something but....

Does anyone know him/his family?

Maybe a decade ago, I ate at Senior Pico's Mexican restaurant with him and Argonheart Po. He wanted "real" Mexican. He pronounced it good enough.

Like he was here, he was very analytical in a way people could mistake for critical. He had something right to say about everything on the table, the room, the band, and the staff. He loved his wife and kids. To go out alone with me and Argonheart was a bit of a sacrifice for him.

'Not, I don't think, much of a fan of me. In the who's met who threads, he'd always make it a point to remember how unmemorable I was. But that long ago night was one of the better travelers cast together by fate/internet-dinners I've had in Bangkok.

As was linked to before, here is a post of his from just the other day (one of his last posts, and I guess the accident probably happened that night).

RIP, fools.

foolsprogress wrote:
-americanjoe- wrote: (Death) How much do you fear it?

Interesting question now. Death really is nothing, in almost every sense, and it makes little sense to fear nothing. It can even be easy, if fast, if you are a good person, and you are alone in this world. In relation to my own death, I fear above all else not fulfilling my responsibilities to others, or failing to protect those that I should. I was never one to jump up and run toward the gunfire or get into some flying death trap just for the sake of doing it. I leave that foolishness to others. But I'm not one to run away either, but get low, suck it up and do my job, whatever that might be. It doesn't even really occur to me in those moments. Intensity distracts. It's waiting that's grating. But still, apply for the same sort of job next time. Though, with children, not like before. I don't want to check out early and leave them in the lurch, fail my responsibilities to them. I really don't. But I am a coward when it comes to loss. I do not want to experience the death of those closest to me, my family. Death is infinitely preferable to that. Right now, my mother lay dying. My father, her husband of 61 years, watching her fade, wishing it could be him, or that somehow God would have mercy and strike him down. I do not want to be there, ever. As somebody smarter than me said, "Lose life and one would lose nothing again for ever. I envied those who could believe in a God, and I distrusted them. I felt they were keeping their courage up with a fable of the changeless and the permanent. Death was far more certain than God, and with death there would no longer be the daily possibility of love dying. The nightmare of a future of boredom and indifference would lift." No sane healthy person wants to die, or is fearless in the face of death, but there are worse things.
