Holy shit. I haven't really paid much attention to the board lately, other than the occasional skim, so I didn't even realize he was sick. I'm so sorry to hear this, gabz. What an original.

My condolences to the folks who are grieving.

Zaffer always seemed like someone you'd want on your side. In the trenches, he'd make you glad he was there.

I'll miss him. He was the last of the renaissance men who posted here.

What a thing to wake up to. I'll miss this guy. Of all the posters that have passed, he's the one I knew the best. I recall seeing his posts on TT way over 10 years ago when he was Saffer. Cantankerous for sure, but I always had the feeling he was doing it to wind people up and was actually a really nice guy. Condolences to Gabz and the rest of his family.

Going to miss having his voice around.

Definitely one of a kind, but he often reminded me of my father.

Sorry to hear this news, Gabz.

I tried to post this earlier today (separately to my earlier post) but couldn't. Facebook is a funny thing. Earlier today i saw via the Facebook feed condolences for someone who had died. They were not someone i knew but obviously enough of an algorithm of closeness for it to appear on my feed.

Just my musings but I'm so sorry gabz that you've lost him.

Condolences to Zaffer's family. Cantankerous is/was a very apt phrase when it came to Zaffer.

I'll be passing the pub that serves Sheepdip over the weekend. Might call in and have one.

I am so sorry gabz,.
Sorry i didn't offer my condolences earlier
I was using my phone and tapatalk doesn't display stickies
When i found out yesterday i was very sad and upset as well as angry
Not that it was a surprise as he was very very sick but I really felt that the medical establishment failed him
I thought he died in the hospital and that made me even more angry
So happy that he was able to die with his beloved dogs in the place he loved

More seriously lousy news.

Have enjoyed Saffer's/Zaffer/s bitching and moaning for years and years, especially on the subjects of planes and telephony, on both of which subjects he appeared to have much more than a superficial knowledge. And I'll give him an 8 out of 10 for sheer posting style as well.

RIP Bud. You will be sorely missed. And if you meet up with Jonno in the great hereafter, hope you both enjoy some strong sheep-dip reminiscing about the Stew.

Thank you so much everyone.

This place meant a great deal to him and so did you guys.

He was 40 kgs when he went. But he had had so many brushes with death. A car twined around a pole when he had been drinking in his twenties. My mother setting fire to him. The dogs chewing out the tendons in his arm. The sheepdip incident. And finally the TB plus a clot on the aorta and his one lung was totally FUBAR. I really hoped that coming home to Smoke would give him the desire to fight back, but ...

At least he was on the land he loved so much and with people who loved him around him. And his dogs of course. Bruceyoumoron refused to leave his bed the whole time he was in hospital and is now mourning.

His IRL name was William and I've posted pictures of him in happier times on my facebook page which is public if anyone wants to see him.

The link is https://www.facebook.com/quidnunx/media ... 257&type=1

and I honestly don't mind people knowing who I am.

I shall miss his crazy corkscrew mind and humour enormously.

Thank you for all the conversations, companionship and laughs you gave him.

With love

Thank you Gabz for sharing the photos with us. You get a real sense of the man from them, he was so alive and happy in his element. Wonderful pics. The one of him smoking in the non-smoking car made me laugh. Yep, that's Zaffer alright.
Goodbye Zaffer, hope there's plenty of beer and ciggies where you are.

Hey Gabz, thanks for the link to the Facebook page--the pictures were fantastic.

I wanted to tell you that you have handled this situation with an enviable degree of class. I think most of us know that Zaf could be a really callous ass towards you at times, particularly in regard to your own battles with cancer, and he didn't hide that here on the board. Many people put into your situation might have lashed out at him or shown bitterness, and you have done neither, and I find that really very inspiring.

the memorial fund that someone set up on facebook doesnt look like a paypal account. it looks like a bank account? but when you send a wire transfer you need more info than they provided such as bank address, and all sorts of numbers. i need more details.

I asked gabz in a pm too. but i dont know when she will be back here.

It really is a bad time to be a Stewbie isn't it.

Zaffer was a crazy bastard, but one of the most complex and interesting people here, sometimes I was horrified by some of the things he posted and I often couldn't tell if he was serious or winding us up. After some of them I felt like I should really dislike him, but no matter how hard I tried I could never bring myself not to like him.

I could never work out your relationship Gabz but there must be something amazing there for you to have hung I there and continued to care for him, if he was able to post know I suspect he might have been accusing you of knocking him off :D Thanks for the pictures, it's great to see him in some completely different ways to the way he portrayed himself here and really helps to round him out as a person for me.

He was pretty fucked up in many ways but we are poorer for not having him around.

Deepest condolences to you and your family Gabz.

Those pictures are perfect, and exactly what I expected from Zaff. Thanks Gabz - you beautiful girl, oh, and mini Gabz too. I've seen many people that have passed on the boards, but only Zaffer - did I think about and miss the next few days. It makes sense, because many of us have the same feeling the day afterwards. He beat to his own drum, lived life to the fullest {v talking about it}, and gone to soon, or maybe not. There are few that break the mold and he did.

Thank-you for sharing he was home at the smoke, with his beloved ones, but, mainly Bruce and died peaceful.

Zaffer, as it appears, walked to the beat of his own drum. Neither here nor there on any discourse except his own. We need more individuals like him, so that we may grow, as he had grown for us. His time has come to a close, yet will be remembered by all.

The only words I wish to say to him now, and forever, are thank you...as shall we all.
One famous poster once said...." I look around the house to see what she doesn't have and then I get her it."

Another famous poster uttered: "I have known non-whites who thought of themselves as expats."
