Disappearing photos?

Postby snowgirl » Sat Mar 04, 2017 4:21 pm

I went back to check on an old travel thread so I could recommend it to someone else and discovered that all the photos are gone and just the work "image" is there in their place. Is there a way to fix this? I posted them from facebook and as far as I know they're still there.

Maybe the links changed? I could update them for you if it would curry favor.

It certainly would! Why would the links change?

No idea, but that is always a risk when you link to an external site, they might decide they want to change their URL structure. Since they don't officially support off site linking it's a possibility. Which post is it?

Nah, I believe imageshack started charging for what it used to provide for free. Those of us who didn't dig deep lost the use of our photos.

I wasn't using imageshack, pez, these were just off of my facebook page.

Mutha, it's my post on Morocco and some pics from my post on Sicily on the travel journalism branch.

I have seen this as well, snowgirl.

I don't think it's on the stew's end.

If you had the ability to fix any of those old threads, you ought to fix Greenlantern's thread about Kiribati - that's one country that I'm pretty sure the rest of the forum isn't likely to bag in this lifetime.

Unfortunately I don't see any easy fix for broken facebook links- looking at the image urls they are just no longer valid. It's probably best to use an image hosting service that in theory officially supports external linking.

Moe, which thread?

Never mind, it's apparently long gone. From GL in 2008:

At least I'm satisfied with somewhere.

Mutha, in an effort to make the board more about me, I would humbly request that you import my 'Kiribati' thread from the old travel journalism branch. I don't care if the rest of my stuff doesn't make it.

Shame, those were some original and unique photos of a place that doesn't get many pics taken, not to mention the well written travelogue that he included. Bummer. At least we've got the Flabster! poster's vivid portrayals of Sri Lanka and Spain to make up for the loss.
